You must be 16 years of age, have the equivalent of an 8th grade education and a high school diploma (or have passed the Ability to Benefit test). You must also complete 1500 hours of course work, though there is no apprenticeship requirement. Home salons and mobile salons are permitted in the state of Illinois and reciprocity is given by comparing the laws of the issuing state to the laws of Illinois at the time the applicant was licensed. Credit is given for work experience as well.
